Intuitive Surgical is a biomedical equipment company headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA. Founded in 1999, the company has 16 years of experience in the field with local manufacturing right here in Silicon Valley.

 

On April 15, GOMA organized this year's first industry tour at Intuitive Surgical. Almost 40 people attended this event which included a 1 hour tour of the company's Sunnyvale manufacturing floor. Our students were a mix of business and engineering students. We got to see first hand a company who successfully implemented Lean Manufacturing, using Toyota's 5S system to reduce waste. We also saw the process from building, assembling and programing these surgical robots.
